The Folio Society, in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society, the British Library and the Scott Polar Research Institute, has published the first ever facsimile of all 12 individual volumes of the 'South Polar Times' with their original covers. The set is accompanied by a commentary by Ann Savours, one of Britain's leading experts on Polar exploration and history.
The 'South Polar Times' was created by Captain Scott and members of his 'Discovery' and Terra Nova expeditions to raise their spirits during the long winter months. Each hand-typed edition is copiously illustrated throughout with paintings, sketches and photographs.
Together the 12 issues capture the reality of their life, from gripping accounts of exploratory expeditions to humorous verse, acrostics and other puzzles.
