MARCH LINK - TO FIND The Staffordshire Hoard
A first glimpse of the recently discovered Anglo-Saxon hoard
The largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found was uncovered on a farm in Lichfield in July 2009. This booklet tells, briefly, its story, with some background on Anglo-Saxon England and full colour photos of some major pieces – many still encrusted with soil. The find is unique, and includes 712 gold objects and 707 of silver, most being high-status warlike items. Years of conservation and research will follow, but this is a beautiful first glimpse of the hoard that “is going to alter our perceptions of Anglo-Saxon England”.
