The changing portrayal of family in Britain over the centuries is explored in a new exhibition at the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield, this month – from the historical portraiture of Thomas Gainsborough to the candid photographs of Richard Billingham.
Sixty five past and contemporary works are on show, spanning 400 years of history, including paintings, photography, film and sculpture from artists such as William Hogarth, Stanley Spencer and Tracey Emin.
The Family in British Art: 16th Century to Now is on show at the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield, until 29 April 2012 and admission is free. For more information, visit the Museums Sheffield website.
