Britain's largest Anglo-Saxon hoard of gold discovered

Postby Rob Attar » Thu Sep 24, 2009 10:17 am

Hi all,

The discovery of a massive Anglo-Saxon hoard of gold has just been announced. See here for more details. They're saying it's bigger than Sutton Hoo and it's been compared to finding the Book of Kells.

What do people think about the news? Will it shake-up our understanding of Anglo-Saxon history?

From preliminary reports it looks like this find is going to shed a great deal of light on the period and the Anglo-Saxon peoples. At the very least it should excite the general public about history when more attention is very much needed.

Personally, I'm curious if there's a direct connection between this discovery and Sutton Hoo and if so, how it's established.
