Have you read any good or bad history books recently? Or do you want to comment on the books we've reviewed in the magazine? If so, this is the place to post.

History Books for 13 year olds

I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I could do with some help.

Does anybody know of any good history books on WW2, especially Winston Churchill, suitable for a 13 year old boy.

My nephew is full of facts and figures on this time in history and he came top of his class,so I thought of buying him a book on the subject for Christmas.

Thanks for your help.

It's an interesting question this one, and I'm not that well qualified to answer as we don't focus on children's history books in the magazine. Maybe we should?

Hi;
In a similar but broader vein, my daughters -- 8 and 10 years old -- enjoyed the works of Howard Zinn, E.H Gombrich, etc as non-fiction sources, but we are a bit stuck when looking for specific time periods. In particular, the 10 year-old is asking for 'historical fiction literature' as night time reading. The key stipulation being a historical perspective which does not take too much liberty, and has a child's ear in mind but does not speak-down. If it reads well when spoken aloud, I am a certain buyer. Any time period is fine. All suggestions are welcome.
Regards,

i'm thirteen too, i love H novels, but most of the ones i read are for older teens, and i dont know if teenage boys would be into them, also, due to sex references and stuff, they might not be suitible for some younger teens.
also, this is just the suggestion of a history obbsessed person, but maybe bbc history magazine would consider doing book reviews of teen historical novels as well as ones for adults.
