I thought it was excellent, as was the first series. What's great about the programmes is that Marr weaves political, social and cultural themes superbly, making his commentary light and amusing in one part and heavy but deeply moving the next. The episode on the First World War was a shining example of this. His wry narrative full of trustworthy analyses and there were some wonderful turns of phrase, as exemplified when he described Edward VII as "an avocado-shaped man known as Bertie".
