Has anyone caught the recent Channel 4 series
On Tour with The Queen? It's Kwame Kwei-Armah following the route of Queen Elizabeth's international tour of 1953 where she visited many British colonies that were soon to leave the Empire. He makes some interesting points about how the tour shaped Britain's place in the world and helped us stay on good terms with these countries. Also, we may now tend to think of the Queen as largely a figurehead but here it appears she played a major role in developing Britain's international relations.
What did other people think?
