Document protection gloves

Postby john roney » Sat Jan 14, 2012 7:16 am

Could some informed person tell me what protocol there is, if any, for when an expert or lay public member handles a historical document under the care of a curator et al and the wearing of cotton? gloves to protect the, eg, 500 year old document. I am amazed when watching Time Team through to the Antiques Roadshow that gloves are rarely used. :?

Dear John,

Thanks for your email. You may find the article on the British Library website helpful in answering your question – they no longer use gloves to handle documents.

Hope it answers your question.
