Could some informed person tell me what protocol there is, if any, for when an expert or lay public member handles a historical document under the care of a curator et al and the wearing of cotton? gloves to protect the, eg, 500 year old document. I am amazed when watching Time Team through to the Antiques Roadshow that gloves are rarely used.

Thanks for your email. You may find the article on the British Library website helpful in answering your question – they no longer use gloves to handle documents.
