The AVRO Lancaster was an awesome aircraft . Now there are RCAF personel who would say the Halifax , I disagree. The bomb load capacity was awesome up to 22,000 lbs . It managed some of the
most difficcult operations of the war , The Dams raid, Tirpitz ,the night bombing offensive .
This past Christmas I saw up close a MK X lancaster that the Aviation Museuim at Calgary ALberta has , and she was gorgeous , if you forget what she was built for . And as to the Americans comment mentioined in the story. 20 years ago I had a chance to see a B 52 and look at its bomb bay gave me the same feeling BIG . And for the mid 1940s the Lancaster was all that .
