Viking hoard find

Postby Dave Musgrove » Thu Aug 27, 2009 1:42 pm

The British museum has unveiled a Viking hoard this morning, with a coin dating to 927. I've just blogged about it here http://www.bbchistorymagazine.com/blog/viking-coins and posed the question, does 927 deserve to be up there with 1066 and 1588 as a key year in our national story? What do you reckon?

why not? in Italy 1860 is a key year, and most towns and villages have a statue or piazza dedicated to Garibaldi, as the unifier of modern Italy.

The guys who found it get to keep half of the hoard's £1 m value. I'm off to buy a metal detector tomorrow!
