Which historical event would you like to have witnessed

Having read the different posts regarding retracing historical journeys, I wondered which historical events you would have liked to have witnessed.

Too many to choose from. Have to lie down for a minute while my brain gets better.
My problem with choosing one is then realising how much I want a different one as well. But I'd settle for a guided tour of the Eastern Mediterranean around AD 450. All that schism, sectarianism, extreme eremiticism and martyrdom would make it a great gig.

Good topic. So many to choose from. I'd love to have been there when the Romans left Britain in the 5th century AD. Did they actually leave, who was left, what did people feel about people abandoned and left to their own defences (and did they even know about it)? Plus, maybe if I'd have hung around a few years, I'd have met Arthur fending off those Saxons.

I'd like to see how some controversial events really unfolded to try and get a truly objective viewpoint: Drogheda in 1649 or the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots, although I do wonder how I would react to the gore!

I'd also love to experience the Blitz and the Swinging Sixties to see if they're anything like the popular nostalgia surrounding them.

I would like to find out who Jack the Ripper was. What really happened to Lord Lucan. The name of the person who invented the wheel!

Really I would like to have been witness to the events that we don't know the answer too.

I would rather be able to meet an enigmatic historical figure than to witness a specific event. For example, I would love to be able to talk to Thomas More and find out what his true intentions were in writing Utopia and the History of King Richard III, among many other things - he is a fascinating man.

I myself would like to view Edward III or Henry V in battle. The battles of Crecy and Agincourt were amazing victories in England; for Crecy, 10,000 English soldiers took on 30,000 French knights and men-at-arms or Agincourt where 8,100 men took on 15,000 Frenchmen. I twould be astonding to see how archers massacred thousands of French kinghts :o I could also get glimpses of King Henry V fighting astride his brother. Watching Edward III and Edward, the Black Prince beat down Philip VI's great army. These men were truely amazing for their times.

The Easter Rising (in Ireland) in 1916. A major episode in Irish history.

What a question! So many choices out there. How about these as top three:

1. The crucifixion of Christ (and resurrection, naturally)

2. The defeat of Attila the Hun at the Battle of the Catalaunian Fields (did I get the name right?)

3. The Battle of Hastings

I could add so many more events, but will let others have a go!

Dave Musgrove - I believe the Roman Army was pulled out of Britain by the usurper Constantine III when he carried out his bid to grab the Western Empire. The garrisons were never restored.
