Historical photographs of China

A project to digitise hundreds of photographs documenting China's turbulent history is currently underway at the University of Bristol and is the subject of a BBC Radio 4 documentary on 11 July.

Mostly taken by foreigners living in or visiting China, who took them out of the country to safety, the photographs provide a historical vision of China which is both unfamiliar and fascinating to its citizens now.
