Pick of the month

Make the most of the festival season

Celebrate 2,000 years of history in one weekend at the annual English Heritage Festival of History. The event is full of things to see and do – from a First World War trench experience to gladiators doing battle, and medieval jousting. This year also sees the event’s first Festival of Historical Writing, where visitors can meet well-known authors such as MC Scott and Michael Morpurgo.

July also sees the first Chalke Valley History Festival, where a host of renowned historians will offer their thoughts on a range of historical topics: from the English at Home, with Juliet Gardiner, Amanda Vickery and Juliet Nicolson, to Greeks vs Romans, with Tom Holland and Richard Miles. The BBC History Magazine team will be attending both events so look out for our stand and come and say hello.
