The exhibition Last Post: Remembering the First World War, curated by The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) and Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms, is now on display at The Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham, Kent.
This exhibition explores the role of the Post Office during the First World War – from the changing expectations of women on the home front to the men who fought in the Post Office battalion, The Post Office Rifles.
Last Post demonstrates how letters were delivered to the front, how the Post Office dealt with dramatic increases in volumes of mail and the vital part that censorship played in the war effort.
Last Post: Remembering the First World War is on display until 1 September 2011. For more information on the exhibition and entrance prices, visit The Royal Engineers Museum website. You can also see an online display of some of the images featured in the exhibition on The British Postal Museum & Archive website.
