The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) has launched an interactive guide to many of the royal arms that can be found in churches in their care.
Of the CCT’s estate of over 340 churches, nearly 100 of possess royal Arms, spanning the various styles between 12th and 20th centuries. These beautifully crafted pieces of art preserved are rich in history and outline England's political and royal history.
The online guide includes zoomable images and an interactive timeline, explaining what Royal Arms are; what their uses were; how they first developed; how they have changed and what meanings they contain.
