  • Why should I sign up to a HistoryExtra account and how do I do it?

By registering you can view up to 3 complimentary articles of your choice each month, this includes everything from our award-winning podcasts to our in-depth features by leading historians.

To create a HistoryExtra account, you can either click here and sign up with your email address and password. Or alternatively, you can create an account using your Facebook or Google login details.

If you want to view more than 3 articles you can subscribe today.

  • What if I don't want to subscribe — can I still read HistoryExtra for free?

Yes, you can still read a limited number of articles on our site. As a registered reader, you can read up to 3 complimentary articles of your choice each month. If you want to go back and read an article you have already read this will not count towards your monthly article limit. This limit will refresh on the 1st of the month, for unlimited access you need to subscribe. 

  • What is my complimentary content limit per month?

As a registered reader, you can read up to 3 complimentary articles of your choice each month. This limit will refresh on the 1st day of every calendar month. If you want to go back and read an article you have already read, this will not count towards your article limit.

  • How can I download the HistoryExtra podcast?

You can listen to our latest podcasts by using our Acast player in your browser, or you can download or subscribe using a podcast service. You can also listen via Apple iTunes, Stitcher or via the RSS feed. You can listen to the latest HistoryExtra podcasts on our website here, or listen on Acast's website here.

  • How do I manage push notifications from my web browser?

A web push notification is a small pop-up alert that is sent to your browser. A notification from HistoryExtra.comwill alert you to content that we think you will enjoy reading.

By clicking on a web notification, you will be taken to some content we think you'll find interesting on HistoryExtra. Alternatively, you can simply dismiss the message.

If you are receiving web push notifications from HistoryExtra.com, this means that you have actively opted in to alerts during a visit to our website.

  • How do I manage/switch off web push notifications?

You can update your preferences at any time in My Account or you can contact our customer services team via e-mail or live chat. If you wish to unsubscribe you can do so in your account settings or you can unsubscribe directly from the bottom of any HistoryExtra email.

Digital Subscriptions 

  • What is a HistoryExtra digital subscription? How much does it cost?

A HistoryExtra digital subscription enables you to have unlimited access to all our articles and podcasts.

There are 3 payment options currently available:

1 month - $4.99 per month 

3 month - $11.99 for 3 months

12 month - $44.99 for 12 months (Annual saving of $14.89 versus monthly payment plan) 

The appropriate sales tax may be applied at the point of purchase. 

  • How do I subscribe to HistoryExtra? 

You can subscribe today for unlimited access here. For subscription payments, we accept both credit card or a debit card.

  • How are digital subscriptions billed?

Your subscription will be automatically renewed based upon the subscription period you originally selected unless you tell us to stop or you update your preferences in My Account. We will contact you before each payment is taken (excluding monthly rolling contracts). If you do nothing, your credit or debit card will be charged and you will be sent an invoice for your subscription via e-mail. You may cancel at any time during your subscription and you can view your expiration date in My Account. You will be billed on or around the same date of the month that you originally signed up on. You will be notified of the renewal if there is a change in price or product. 

  • What is the cancellation and refund policy?

You may notify us of your intention to cancel at any time via updating your details in My Account or alternatively you can contact our customer service team via email or live chat. Such notice will only take effect at the end of your current subscription period and you will not be entitled to a refund on your current subscription period. You will still have access until your subscription end date.

  • Can I give someone a digital subscription as a gift?

No, at this point we don't have a gifting functionality but we are hoping to bring this to you soon.

  • Do you have an education, group or corporate subscription program? Are there any subscription discounts?

HistoryExtra is an individual online subscription product, therefore if you are subscribed to any of our magazine products, you will not automatically get access to HistoryExtra. You can subscribe to HistoryExtra here.

If you subscribed to BBC History Magazine Print or Digital Edition before 9th September then you are entitled to access all web content until your current subscription term comes up for renewal. Please contact customer services here for more details on how to activate this.
