What is The Library?
The Library is an exclusive area of Historyextra.com only available for BBC History Magazine subscribers. Containing a comprehensive, fully searchable, 10 year archive of BBC History Magazine content, our complete podcast archive plus videos, and much more – it is the perfect tool for those wanting to further explore and absorb themselves in all fascinating aspects of history.
How do I access The Library?
To access The Library you'll need to register as a user of historyextra.com and enter your BBC History Magazine subscriber number.
Please note that the full name you enter when logging into The Library needs to be the same as that supplied when ordering your subscription.
I subscribed to the print edition of BBC History Magazine...
You can find your subscriber number on your magazine address sheet or magazine carrier bag.
I subscribed via the App on iOS or Google Play...
- Open your BBC History Magazine app on your mobile or tablet device. You will need to be logged into your iTunes or Google Play account.
- Tap on the Support option in the lower right-hand corner of the app (iOS) or top left-hand corner (Android) and then select 'The Library'.
- A screen will then appear showing your subscriber number - this is the number you should enter when registering for The Library access on historyextra.com
I purchased a digital subscription via BuySubscriptions.com...
You will have received an email from BuySubscriptions.com confirming your digital subscription. This email contains your subscriber number as shown here.
I'm being presented with an error message...
If you're being presented with a message that there's a problem with your details, there could be several causes.
1. Are your personal details up to date?
The surname on your historyextra.com website account needs to exactly match the surname on your magazine subscription. If your name has changed since taking out the subscription, please notify our subscriber customer service team.
Then, please update your surname in the Settings area of your historyextra.com website account.
Finally, please try activating The Library again - let us know if you need any further assistance.
2. My subscription was a gift...
If you were gifted a subscription and can't activate your Library access, it could be that the surname of the person who gifted your subscription is stored on your account, rather than your own. Please contact our subscriber customer service team to update the surname on your subscription account.
3. Has your subscription previously lapsed and you've subsequently subscribed again?
If you've had a subscription that lapsed and subscribed again your subscription number might have changed. To find your correct subscription number, please see information above.

Outside of free call packages call charges from mobile phones will cost between 3p and 55p per minute. Lines are open Mon to Fri 8am – 6pm and Sat 9am – 1pm.
