Matthew Hopkins, Witchfinder General – by Ethan, 8, Cheshire

The witches have cursed the world with the coronavirus and if they are not stopped, they will destroy the world. I am really angry because this lockdown is stopping me from catching these bad witches. From Matthew Hopkins

Samuel Pepys – by Daniel, 13, London

Lockdown has been extremely hard so far and my cheese storage has been running low for weeks now, but luckily I buried some cheese in my back garden and that should do, if I can find it! I have been writing in my diary significantly more than I was before lockdown, but there isn't much to write about since life is pretty boring at the moment and there isn't anything to do except read or write really. Despite doing lots of exercise in lockdown I have still been gaining lots of weight. I think that it's because I have been eating too much cheese. From Samuel Pepys

Cleopatra –  by Anya, 6, Lancashire

I am bored of sitting on my throne. Julius Caesar is being really noisy and always in my bath of donkey milk and honey. Cleo xxx

Caligula – by Ewan, 9, Essex

I'm going crrrraaazzzyyy in boredom. Ever since the plague broke out my guards have been telling me to stay inside. I've got my three sisters to deal with. My horse is my best friend that I made a priest. I've been feeding him oats mixed with flakes of gold and soon I'm going to make him into a consul. Then I'm going to declare war on Neptune. Everyone is saying that I'm crazy but they're wrong. I'm Caligula.

Victorian child – by Eleanor, 13, Tyne and Wear

This lockdown is horrible. My family are so poor we could barely afford food anyway, and now no one can work we can't get any at all. I help my mother with sewing clothes to take my mind off it. The only good thing is that now I don't have to go to work in the dangerous factory. I hope this is over soon. From Lizzie, a Victorian child

Caesar – by Conall, 10, Gloucestershire

Hi Mark Antony. Caesar here. I need you to get me back to Rome with ripe grapes and gladiators. Here I get loads of sand in my mouth and there is no entertainment. And there has been an outbreak of a virus. Cleopatra doesn't even care. Get me out of here! Caesar

Edward III – by Max, 10, Surrey

I am sick inside wondering when I will finally resume my war with France (which has already begun). I know only a few years ago was the end of a three year plague killing a third of England. Coronavirus is even worse. When this new illness is over I will destroy France and Scotland to make myself the greatest king in English history. Also I’ll give Wales and Ireland a punch up, too! From Edward III (the best English king (personally) | By Max, 10, Surrey

Caesar – Max, 8, West Yorkshire

I am so very bored without a war to plan and fight I am just a heavily armed man. I like spending time with Cleopatra but she’s getting a bit angry. This is because we’ve run out of milk for her weekly bath! Caesar | by Max, 8, West Yorkshire

Cleopatra – by Megan, 9, New Forest

This is Cleopatra writing from my palace in Egypt. We are having a hard time in lockdown because of our hot weather and our flies but we use honey covered slaves to keep them away from us. I really miss going to the river and lying down when the best behaved slave rows my canoe up and down the river. I miss talking to my best friend. From Cleopatra | Megan, 9, New Forest
