  • Ashburton Hall, Elizabeth II Court
  • Saturday 6 October

The Julio-Claudians ruled the Roman empire longer than any other dynasty, but not one of the five emperors was the son of his predecessor. Instead, the dynasty was carried down the female line. Guy will tell the story of the remarkable women, such as Livia and Agrippina, who were the backbone of this era.

Guy de la Bédoyère is a historian and author. His numerous books focus mainly on the Roman world, but he has also written about John Evelyn and Samuel Pepys. Guy was a regular face on Channel 4’s Time Team. His latest book is Domina: The Women Who Made Imperial Rome.
