For the third year running, almost 40 historians and writers gave a series of lectures at the annual History Weekend.
Festival-goers heard talks from leading historians including Simon Schama, Suzannah Lipscomb, Michael Wood, and Tracy Borman. Lectures were also given by Alison Weir, Dan Jones, Dominic Sandbrook, and Diarmaid MacCulloch.
Kate Williams, Melvyn Bragg, Marc Morris, and Greg Jenner also entertained audiences with their chosen subjects. Members of the public were also able to put their questions to historians in a series of informal talks, which were hosted by maritime historian Sam Willis.
Another festival highlight was the lively debate between Janina Ramirez, Marc Morris, Suzannah Lipscomb, and Saul David about the most interesting historical period to study.
In a new addition to the festival, military historian Julian Humphrys hosted a lively quiz on Saturday night to test the historical knowledge of festival-goers.
Look out for our photo round-up of the festival, coming soon.
