Dr Hetta Howes is a lecturer in English Literature at City University of London, specialising in medieval literature and history, and especially gender studies and the history of the emotions. Her book Transformative Waters in Late-Medieval Literature (Boydell and Brewer, 2021) considers the transformative affects that water has on women and their imaginations in the late Middle Ages. As a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker, she is a regular broadcaster for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4, both as a presenter for the Arts & Ideas podcast and as developer for a number of documentaries about the medieval world. She holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature and MPhil in Medieval Literature from Cambridge University and a PhD in medieval women's writing from Queen Mary, University of London
