Ellie Cawthorne
I’m Ellie, HistoryExtra’s head of audio content. I oversee our expanding audio output, from planning and commissioning through to shaping the direction of the award-winning HistoryExtra podcast. I also run the podcast newsletter, contribute regularly to HistoryExtra magazine, and host a range of our live and virtual events.
Most days, you’ll find me in conversation with historians, preparing future episodes or immersed in the newest historical releases. Since joining the team in 2016, I’ve worked across print, digital and audio, helping to develop HistoryExtra’s podcasting into one of the leading history audio platforms.
I hold undergraduate and masters degrees in history from the University of Nottingham. Before joining HistoryExtra, I presented BBC Radio 4 documentaries on the history of student life and on the global trade in fake university essays.
In 2019, I was named a FIPP Rising Star Award winner and selected as one of the PPA’s 30 under 30.
Before joining the team, Ellie studied for undergraduate and masters degrees in history at the University of Nottingham. She has also presented documentaries on the history of student life and the multimillion-pound online trade in fake university essays for BBC Radio 4.
