William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare (1564–1616) was a famed Elizabethan and Jacobean playwright whose best-known works include 'Macbeth'; 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'; 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'The Tempest'. Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564, during the reign of Elizabeth I. He married the 26-year-old Anne Hathaway in 1582, when he was 18 years old, and together they had three children. In addition to his plays Shakespeare also published 154 sonnets and was a shareholder in the group of players called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, who built their own theatre called the Globe in London. Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest playwright of all time. He died on 23 April 1616
