Talk synopsis: For over 130 years our culture has been obsessed with the murderer known as Jack the Ripper, but little attention has been paid to the lives of the women he killed. Hallie Rubenhold will discuss the research she undertook to bring these Victorian women and their experiences back to life for her bestselling book, The Five.

Speaker bio: Hallie Rubenhold is an author, broadcaster and social historian. Her area of expertise lies in revealing the lives of the lesser known women of the 18th and 19th centuries. Her first work of non-fiction, The Covent Garden Ladiesbecame the inspiration for the TV series Harlots, while her second book, The Scandalous Lady W was adapted as a drama for BBC Two.
