Ellie will discuss the challenges that women faced as rulers in the male-dominated political landscape of the Middle Ages. Looking at strong regnant queens and failed female claimants, she will reveal how women came to the throne and what prevented their access to power.
About
Dr Ellie Woodacre is a senior lecturer in early modern history at the University of Winchester. She is a specialist in queenship and royal studies and has published extensively in this area. Ellie is also editor-in-chief of the Royal Studies Journal.
